Brief description:

The final design for the Maldonado stream basin had as objective to mitigate the flooding problems through: 

• Increase the sinks' uptake capacity

• Increase the capacity of the existing trunk line through two discharge tunnels of 6.90 m in diameter (long tunnel, about 10 km., And short tunnel, approx. 5 km) 

• Septum of 1,177 m of the current outfall 

• Increase the drivability of the secundary collecting ducts networks by building 114 new storm drain (length: 46 km) 

Tasks included: 

•Executive project with bidding specifications and environmental study of the main outfall septum, construction of two discharging tunnels and secundary collector network expansion. 

•Design and development of  tunnels' constructive methodology (hand-dug and using machinery), thrust calculation, spiked Bypass construction, anchoring, stilt and geotechnical profiles development). 

•Basic complementary studies implementation

•Socio-economic and financial evaluation of the selected project development and deepening the technical, environmental, urban, institutional and legal development for both structural and non-structural measures studies alternative.
